Great posting by a Good Training Certified Trainer
Ben White created a post today in The SalesLogix User Group forum that documents some registry entries that he has found useful and it is possible that you will find this information useful as well. Mike Spragg also jumped in and added some useful registry entries. If you are interested check out the post Registry Entries for SLX. Thank you Ben and Mike!
I hope everyone has wonderful weekend

Granting read only access.
Many companies configure SalesLogix to grant read only access to certain individuals, or teams, and today we had a member who was wondering how this can be done. If you have a need for granting read only access, or may in the future, I encourage you to check out the SalesLogix Teams question.

Good Question of the Day, Monday July 14, 2008.
Happy Monday and welcome back to work. My week is starting off well and I hope the same can be said for all of you!
We had a great question come in today from a member who was wondering about the Lead create date when converting a Lead to a Contact. By default, when a user converts a Lead to a Contact the create date shows as the date the Lead is converted, not the date the Lead was created. The member would like the create date to show as the day the Lead was created when the Lead has been converted to a Contact. Can this be done? How? I think this is an excellent question and it may be useful for some of you to review the answer. Read the Lead Creation Date question.

Good Question of the Day, Tuesday July 8, 2008.
We all know that when it comes to creating a group the list of possible conditions can seem endless, and sometimes the condition you are looking for does not seem to exist. I know this from first hand experience. I remember trying to create a group where one of the criteria was a custom field, for the life of me I could not find this field. Luckily, I work with a group of people with thorough knowledge of SalesLogix and, after some frustration, it all worked out.
Today we had a question come in regarding making the LeadSource available at the Account level. The member had a request from her sales team to have leads from tradeshows grouped at the Account level instead of the Contact level, and she could not find LeadSource as an option at the Account level. How was she able to solve this problem? Read the question and answer for Group at Account level based on Contact level data.

Good Questions of the Day, Monday July 7, 2008.
Happy Monday! I had a fantastic 3-day weekend - barbequed with friends, played croquet and frisbee, saw fireworks - and I don't think it could have been any better. I hope all of you had a great weekend as well!
Today we held the workshop "Running Reports for SalesLogix v7.0", and during this workshop we took an in-depth look at reports. This workshop generated many questions which I promised the attendees that I would post in The SalesLogix User Group forum. I think that many Good Training members and visitors would benefit from looking over the questions and the answers and I encourage all of you to do so. All of the report questions have the subject, "SalesLogix Reports".

Good Questions of the Day, Wednesday July 2, 2008.
We've hit mid-week and I'd like to draw your attention to a couple of good questions that we've received recently.
Importing products into SalesLogix is a serious process and it is important that it is executed correctly. One of our members recently imported products into SalesLogix and now is experiencing problems with products and opportunities. Exactly what is going on here? See the product import question and answer.
Having many leads to enter into SalesLogix is nice - more opportunities to generate revenue, possibly commission as well. SalesLogix out-of-the-box allows you to assign leads to teams or individuals and this does not normally cause issues for companies that receive a small amount of leads on a regular basis. It can be an issue when you are distributing upwards of 100 leads a day to 20 reps. This is the exact problem one of our members is facing, read what can be done about this lead distribution question.

Good Question of the Day, Monday June 30, 2008.
Welcome back to work!
Today we had a great question come in from a brand new Good Training member. It makes me happy when new members jump right in and start asking questions, that is why this site exists! The issue that he had occurred when he tried to opened an opportunity it would take an eternity to load - not just seconds but minutes. This issue had been plaguing him for over a year but I believe today it was resolved. Read about his opportunity problem.

That is the Good Question of the Day, June 24, 2008.
Hello and how are all of you? I am well and I hope you all can say the same! Today we had an interesting question come in that was meant to spark discussion. The question is regarding whether or not one should associate all activities in the account entity and I think it was great of the Good Training member to put it out there. Read the question and answers, and if you have any thoughts to share please do!

Good Questions of the Day, Thursday June 19, 2008.
The week is drawing to a close and if you're like me you are very happy tomorrow is Friday. I'm not complaining, I've had a very productive week, but my brain is tired and needs a few days to recuperate. However, my brain is not too tired to share some good questions we have received.
SalesLogix Mobile is a wonderful tool if you find yourself constantly out of the office with a need for SalesLogix but you don't want to carry around a laptop. If you have been considering SalesLogix Mobile there are details to consider. One member was curious about customizations and synchronization in the Mobile client. Are you curious? Read the SalesLogix Mobile Questions.
If you work in service or support I would bet that you are familiar with Tickets in SalesLogix. Have you ever wondered if there was functionality to be gained by using the Search button in the Tickets detail tab? Today a Good Training member posted a question asking exactly this. I made an attempt to answer the Tickets SpeedSearch question but if anyone else has information to share I encourage you to do so!

Good Question of the Day, June 11, 2008.
How many companies are able to keep SalesLogix duplicate free? My guess would be not many. Finding duplicate accounts and contacts when performing a search in SalesLogix is annoying, I know first hand. Thank goodness there is a way to check for duplicates in SalesLogix and then handle them appropriately (merge, delete, etc.). This brings me to the good question of the day - checking for duplicates. Read the question and check out the answers provided.

Good Questions of the Day, Thursday June 5, 2008.
One day left and then it's the weekend! It has been a very busy week and I'm looking forward to its end.
This week we've had some good questions come in as well as follow-ups on old questions that I thought I'd point out:
We had a couple of members bring up an issue with calendar options being greyed out and they wanted to know why this is happening. Ben White stepped in to help out with this Outlook Calendar Sync question and offered possible reasons for the issue.
Another question came in about Synching Contacts to Outlook, particularly from static groups. Both Adam Travers and Mike Spragg offered some great information and I encourage you to check out this question.
Adam Travers jumped in and gave great instruction for building a specific type of group using the Query Builder. The instructions Adam gave worked perfectly for the member and I believe the answer to this question could be of use to some of you as well.
Thank you for contributing to Good Training with your questions! I also want to thank Ben, Adam, and Mike for sharing your knowledge!

Good Questions of the Day, Tuesday May 27, 2008.
I'm back from my 3-day weekend! During my time off I was able to do some biking, grilling, and socializing with friends and family (no croquet ) - it was a great time. All of you enjoyed your weekend, whether it was the standard 2 day or for the holiday, and are refreshed for your work week.
Today we had some good questions come into the SalesLogix User Group forum that I thought would be worth pointing out. A new Good Training member posted a question about removing inactive contacts from an email pop-up list, check out the answer if this question is of interest.
Another question came in regarding issues with the confirmations tab on the activities screen. Have any of you experience this problem? If so, please help provide some feedback so our member can work through his problem.
We also had some additional information posted to past questions in the SalesLogix User Group forum that you may want to read.

Good Questions of the Day, Wednesday May 21, 2008.
We've made it to the middle of the week, hooray! The beautiful spring weather is calling my name and I can't help but want to be outside all of the time. Too bad I can't move my office outdoors...
Today we had a great question come in from a new Good Training member regarding adding/editing views, specifically an Add View form. If this question sounds like something that you may find helpful check out the add/edit views question. Thanks for your participation linap20!
On Monday, Dale posted answers to questions that were posted during the workshop Campaigns for SalesLogix v6.2 and Above. Ben saw the lead source question and jumped in with some extra information. It's great info and I encourage you to take a look.

Good Questions of the Day, Monday May 19, 2008.
Welcome back to work! This weekend I didn't get to ride my bike as much as I had hoped - it was extremely windy which doesn't make for pleasant biking. I did get to pull out and use my grill for the first time this year, one of my favorite warm weather activities, and it was absolutely fantastic. I hope that all of you had a pleasant weekend as well.
During today's workshop, Campaigns for SalesLogix v6.2 and Above, we had some great questions come in from the participants. If you are new to using Campaigns in SalesLogix I encourage you to check out the following questions, the answers may come in handy down the road: Lead Groups, Lead Source, Empulse Service, and Expected Responses.
Thank you April and Jen for your great questions!

Good Questions of the Day, Monday May 12, 2008.
Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a nice weekend and found time to relax and kick back. I did tons of baking this weekend, cookies and a pie, but I did manage to fit in some relaxation as well. I'm glad I did because I was swamped when I got into the office today. Enough about me.
We had a few questions come in today, two of which are about merges and another came from the Query Builder workshop we held today. The first merge question is about merging 1-to-1 fields, the second is about the Merge Wizard. Thank you Barb for the questions, I'm sure others will benefit from them! The query builder question pertains to best practices when deleting groups. Thank you Denise for joining us for today's workshop and for asking a great question.

Good Questions of the Day, Wednesday May 7, 2008.
We are half way through the week and I hope it has been going well for everyone thus far. Today we had a couple of good questions come into the SalesLogix User Group forum as well as great answers provided by Mike, Ben, and Adam - between the three of them they have many different ways to solve a problem. Options are nice! Just in case any of you are wondering about the lack of participation by Dale Richter (he is the man behind the Good Training Workshops), he has been vacationing in sunny Mexico for the last 2 weeks! Lucky guy, but he should be back on the forums next week. On to the questions...
The first question that came in today deals with attachments duplicating in the attachments tab. This question is more on the support side of life, but I encourage you to check out the different answers provided for the duplicate attachments question.
The second question is about displaying tickets, and I must admit I was a bit intrigued with what this user would like to do. Is your curiosity piqued? If you answered yes, go and view the displaying tickets question.

Good Questions of the Day, Thursday May 1, 2008.
In the past couple of days we've had some wonderful questions come in, some have been short and sweet, others have been extensive and in-depth. Either way, we have some great people answering these questions - they have so much knowledge that it is almost scary!
There are so many things to learn and so much that you can do in SalesLogix it is only natural that questions come up. What do we have for today? Check out a question about finding contact information submitted by one of our new members - she has contact information in an Excel spreadsheet and she wants to know the most efficient way to find the contacts in SalesLogix. There is also a sorting issue one of members is running into with the date field and the time field. Another member posted a question that is a variation of a previously asked question - filtering the notes/history tab in the Web client (you will need to scroll down the thread to get to this one). The ticket function question is a long, on-going discussion - many posts and replies dealing with best practices, functionality, etc. - but it has tons of great information that you may find useful.
A big thanks to everyone who has asked a question/s and the cool guys who are providing the answers!

Good Questions of the Day, Tuesday April 22, 2008.
Yesterday and today we had many good questions posted on Good Training. In fact, too many to go into the gory details (well that may be a bit of an exaggeration). So instead I will give you a run down of the subjects and you can check out any and all that you find interesting. Questions posted include: toolbars icons, sync issues, the web client, configuring a group, web library, creating a professional proposal, and releasing a template.
A big thanks to all of you who are brave enough to ask questions! I also want to thank Mike and Ben for being so quick to respond, it is definitely appreciated!

Good Questions of the Day, Wednesday April 16, 2008.
Recently we've had some great questions come in that I want to point out and I encourage all of you to view. Why view them? Well, you never know when a nugget of information you pick up now could have some relevance in your future.
Sometimes there is a need to hide accounts in SalesLogix and that is exactly what one of our users wanted to do, specifically accounts with history older than a certain date. If you're interested go and check out how to hide accounts.
Adding a new product line can be tricky and it is best to tread carefully when doing this - going about it haphazardly could cause serious havoc in SalesLogix. The need to add a new product line is what drove a Good Training member to ask how this can be done, and best practices when doing so, from the experts we have monitoring the site. View the answer to the new product line question.
And now on to the contact processes question - specifically, can you filter the History/Notes tab during a contact process. This question was asked a while back but a different member wanted clarification of it working in a company specific scenario. View the complete contact processes question and answer thread.

Good Questions of the Day, Monday April 14, 2008.
It's the beginning of another work week and I hope everyone had a nice weekend. My weekend was pretty low key - I watched the Minnesota Wild hockey playoffs on Friday night. The Wild won and I was pretty happy (I'm from Minnesota). Enough about me.
We are starting this week off right with a round of questions posted in The SalesLogix User Group. The questions today are specific to 3 different features/functions of SalesLogix. The first question that came in deals with hiding reports so that only the necessary reports are available. The second question involves the use of lookups, specifically searching based on a contact's first name. The last question we received today involves modifying templates - this is a skill every administrator should possess.
If you have any additional information to add to these questions please don't hesitate to do so. Have a great week!

Good Question of the Day, Friday April 11, 2008.
Another work week draws to a close and I'm sure many of you are looking forward to relaxing for a couple of days. Before you begin relaxing I think you should check out a question that came in today regarding territory realignment. Have you ever wondered why you would use the territory realignment feature instead of the global replace wizard? Ok, maybe you haven't but I'm sure your interest is piqued - there is a reason why you should use territory realignment over global replace in certain situations and I encourage you to learn why.
Have a great weekend!

Good Question of the Day, Monday March 31, 2008.
The week has just begun and already we have a great question from a Good Training member. The question that came in today centers around populating history dates and I think it is definitely worth checking out if you have had a problem with this feature. Thanks for the question Barb!
Sometime this week I am going to attempt to create a new Workshop based on the Query Builder (we've had a couple requests) so keep your eyes peeled. If you have any Workshop suggestions please don't hesitate to post them, I will try to comply if it seems as though it has broad appeal.
Have a great week everyone!

Good Questions of the Day, March 27, 2008.
The week is drawing to an end, but that does not mean the great questions and answers stop!
A few days ago we had a question come in regarding merging records. If you are new to SalesLogix or if you've never had to perform a contact or account merge you should check out this question. I still remember my first month of using SalesLogix when my boss asked me to merge a few contact and account records - I had learned how to perform a merge during my training but I had forgotten how, and I was much too stubborn to ask for help. Very frustrating, too bad Good Training wasn't around at that time. For those of you who would like a more in-depth explanation of merging records check out the On Demand Workshop for Merging Records.
Creating an automatic email for won/lost opportunities is a question that came in today and there are multiple ways this question can be answered. Read this question and the answers provided and you may just think of some mundane processes that could benefit from automated emails.
Thank you Ben and Mike for taking the time to provide great answers and thanks to the Good Training members who were not afraid to raise their hands and ask questions! Talk to you all tomorrow.

Good Question of the Day, Monday March 24, 2008.
It's Monday and back to the grind but I hope everyone had a great weekend! Today we had a Good Training member post a question about telemarketing scripts in SalesLogix - can it be done and what is the best practice for doing so? Would a telemarketing script be helpful for you and your company? If your answer is yes, I encourage to take a look at the telemarketing scripts question.
Have a productive week and I'll talk to you all tomorrow!

Good Questions of the Day, Friday March 21, 2008.
Friday is upon us again, hooray! This week at Good Training has been wonderful - many new Good Training members, great Workshop participation, and tons of great questions. I feel like we are all learning new skills and getting better at using SalesLogix.
And today was another great day (how could it not be?) on The SalesLogix User Group with 3 new questions - Managing Releases in v7.2, Field Level Security, and Use of Visual Studio. Interested? I encourage you to go and check these out!
I also want to give a big thank you to our new members for not being afraid to raise their hands and ask a question, and also to Mike Spragg - our newest SalesLogix expert and contributor. As many of you have seen Mike has a wealth of knowledge that he is quick to share. Keep the great questions coming!
Have a safe and fun weekend!

Good Questions of the Day, Thursday March 20, 2008.
Sooo many questions I can't even list all of the topics. In the past couple of days we have received a flood of new questions and clarifications on older questions. The content of the questions touch upon many different features and functions of SalesLogix and I believe taking a glance at some of them would be beneficial to many members and visitors - I've even learned a few things!
I am very pleased with the amount and quality of the questions posted to Good Training and the answers provided. I encourage all of you to learn something new and check out The SalesLogix User Group!

Good Questions of the Day, Friday March 14, 2008.
Hello everyone and happy Friday! In the past couple of days we have had some great questions come in that I want to point out. Two are in The SalesLogix User Group forum, one question is about the ability to realign territories based on custom fields and the other deals with checking for duplicate email addresses.
We also had a member post an inquiry in The Watercooler forum about online services for project management. It was great to see a member making use of The Watercooler - we recently created this forum so that Good Training members would have a place to discuss other aspects of business that may or may not relate to SalesLogix. We understand that working in SalesLogix is not the only thing that members do during their day and I encourage members to collaborate in this forum. I think there is the possibility of picking up some great tips and recommendations!
Have a fun weekend!

Good Question of the Day, Wednesday March 12, 2008.
A question came into Good Training today with regards to using SalesLogix with a VPN connection. This question is tough because this type of connection is most likely not supported by Sage. Jason Buss, a Good Training developer, took a swing at the VPN issue with a troubleshooting suggestion and if any members have ideas don't hesitate to post them!

Good Question of the Day, Tuesday March 11, 2008.
The ability to create and use templates in SalesLogix is extremely useful and one which I appreciate. Could you imagine having to copy and paste info into 100 different emails instead of creating a template and performing a merge? I don't know how people used to manage (and how some still do). Today we had a question come into Good Training inquiring if it is possible to create a template based on an excel file. Ben White, a SalesLogix certified trainer, jumped in and provided some great insight! Curious as to the answer? Find out if you can create a template based on an excel file.
Don't be shy - if you have any feedback or suggestions for this question, or any others, go ahead an post. We're all here to help each other.

Good Questions of the Day, Monday February 25, 2008.
We have had some good questions come in during the last couple of days that I want to point out. The first question is regarding an error when attempting to release a plugin and the second question deals with the "View Details" button not working when in the Opportunity screen. Good Questions of the Day, Friday February 15, 2008.
This week has been a great week in regard to member activity and I hope it continues! It is always fun to see member participation and to help people get to the bottom of their SalesLogix issues. Yesterday and today we received many questions on the Good Answers forum, some have been answered completely and others are works in progress. The questions are about the following topics: Recording an Unscheduled Phone Call, Contact Processes and Sales Processes, Copying Accounts/Contacts to a Clip Board, and Report Filtering on Custom Tables. Check out the questions and answers, and don't be afraid to reply to the questions if you have information that would be helpful.

Yesterday and today we received many great questions and I love to see so much activity by our members! Dale and Ben, our Good Training Certified Trainers, along with the Good Training Concierge, were able to provide answers to all of the questions. The questions we've received cover a broad range of topics - Reporting and Analysis, Activity Date Default, Editing the Standard Toolbar, and Use of the Knowledge Base and SpeedSearch. Check them out, some of the questions and answers may be relevant to improving your use of SalesLogix. Also, don't hesitate to add your own advice if you think of information that these users may find helpful.

Good Question of the Day, Friday February 8, 2008.
Many users of SalesLogix work in a system that has been customized to some extent. Today a question came in from a member who was wondering about a tab on his Opportunity screen labeled "Sales Team" and what, if any, benefits or processes this tab may have. Out-of-The-Box, SalesLogix doesn't have a "Sale Team" tab on the Opportunity screen which made answering this question difficult, but we tried our best. Check out the question and answer here...

Good Question of the Day, Thursday February 7, 2008.
Last night we had a question come in regarding querying assets. The Good Training member was able to run a query by serial number but found that when she did this she was missing some data. She hopes that if she is able to query assets by ProductName, Family, or SKU she will find all of the information she needs and then build a group based on her query. So how can this be done? Good Question of the Day, Monday January 14, 2008.
Sometimes questions come into Good Training that are not necesarily end user training questions. That was the case with a question that came into Good Training at the end of last week - the question is much more advanced than normal but it was answered over the weekend by another Good Training member. The question has to do with where the Enable Multi-Currency is stored, you can check out the question and answer here...

Good Question of the Day, December 21, 2007.
A Good Training member is having problems with a toolbar button pulling Accounts with the type marked as "Lead". The button was only pulling 500 records and the member knew there were 9000. So where did the member go to get the answer to the problem? Well Good Training of course! One of Good Training's wonderful certified trainers, Ben White, directed the member on how to find the script the button was running so that it could be corrected to list all 9000 accounts. Check out the question here...

Good Question of the Day, December 17, 2007.
Sometime there is sensitive information in SalesLogix that only a few people should see. To enable this the information must be released to the correct people while at the same time keeping the information private from others. Good Questions of the Day, December 14, 2007.
This week we had some great questions come into the Good Answers forums. The first question is regarding rearranging the order in which your Group tabs display - knowing how to do this can be helpful if you are a person that does a fair amount of work with groups. You can check out this here... The second question deals with report filtering on custom tables - this is tricky and possibly requires writing parameter fields directly into the report. Check out the question and answer here...

Good Question of the Day, November 27, 2007.
The Activity Reminder in SalesLogix v7.0 is a great way to ensure that you do not forget important phone calls, to-dos, etc. during your day. Some users find it frustrating. Today we had a good question inquiring if there is a way to turn this feature off. Check out the question and answer here...

New Workshop Suggestion
Today we had a great Workshop suggestion from a new Good Training member - Campaigns! The member who suggested this Workshop is also new to using SalesLogix, she has campaigns to build and would like to use this feature to its full potential. I think that this is a great goal and one that other members of Good Training would benefit from as well. I am currently putting together some new Workshops for the new year and if you have an idea for a Workshop, and it would be beneficial to all members of Good Training, I would love to hear it. It's simple, post your suggestion here... Thank you for your suggestion Anne!

Good Question of the Day, November 8, 2007.
Have you ever had trouble setting permissions or having someone set permissions for you? One of our Good Training members who recently upgraded from SalesLogix v4.2 to v7.1 had trouble setting permissions for managing picklists in the new version. Good Question of the Day, October 29, 2007.
So, how does the Activity Reminder work? What about for recurring events? We had another great question come in yesterday inquiring about general information for the Activity Reminder. I think this is information all SalesLogix users should know because we all use activities. Two great answers to the Activity Reminder were posted, both gave insight to different aspects of this feature. Check out the question and answers here... Thank you Keri for the great question and your participation!

Good Question of the Day, October 25, 2007.
For the Marketing Campaigns feature of SalesLogix (in v6.2.3 and above) there are many areas that need to be set up properly and it is no wonder that someone who wants to use this feature may run into some troubles. We had a great question come in at the end of last week regarding the Launch Email button for Marketing Campaigns not functioning. Today there is finally a resolution that I wanted to share with everyone, check out the question and answer | | |
